Hideyuki Ando
Researcher
Born in 1974, Hideyuki Ando received the B.E. and M.E. in electronic engineering from Aichi institute of technology, Japan, in 1997 and 1999. He received the Ph.D. (Information Science and Technology) from the University of Tokyo, Japan, 2004. Since 2002, he works for NTT Communication Science Laboratories. His studies have been presented in SIGGRAPH 02, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, and Ars Electoironica 07, 09. His work was selected as Excellence Prize at Japan Media Arts Festival 2008 in art division, and as Honorary Mention of the Interactive Art Category of the Prix Ars Electronica 2009.

EUPHRATES
Creative Group
A creative group of graduates of Masahiko Sato Laboratory at Keio University. Started their activities in 2005. They are in charge of the "Pitagora Souchi" and other sections of the Pitagora Switch, an educational program on NHK. Their short video, "A-POC INSIDE", won gold award at New York ADC 86th Annual Award. EUPHRATES' other work includes "the Extending Arm" and "Micro Craftsman Training" at "Transform Yourself" exhibition held at NTT InterCommunication Center (ICC) in 2008. Kohji Robert Yamamoto, Hirofumi Yonemoto and Masaya Ishikawa participated in the planning and production of the piece exhibited at this exhibition.

Naoaki Fujimoto
Artist
Graduated from Tokyo Institute of Technology, School of Science, Department of Physics (Particle Physics). After being involved in the development of interactive contents and digital signage as a programmer, Naoaki Fujimoto started his own business in June 2009. He now develops software utilizing such technologies as image recognition, sound processing and physics calculation, designs and develops electronic circuit, and creates pieces that place emphasis on experiences. In 2009, he developed "magnetic fluid visualizer." In 2010, he participated in the creation of "scope_02/tatsuno" at Tatsuno Museum of Art. His main work includes "Create the Future with Cyber Arduino" (CQ Publishing).

Takashi Fukaya
Design Engineer
Born in 1969 in Aichi, Japan. Takashi Fukaya met Naoki Fukuhara while he was a member of Manga Research Club at Tokai High School. He researched into human interaction at NHK Science & Technical Research Laboratories, creating pieces including "Invisible Light" and "Virtual Scope." He also worked with Mr. Toshio Iwai, a media artist, creating "Morphovision" as a collaborative project. He has a Ph.D. in Design & Architecture.

Naoki Fukuhara
Engineer
Born in 1966 in Aichi, Japan. Naoki Fukuhara met Takashi Fukaya while he was in high school. He works as a service engineer. He uses his own style in production.

Antony Gormley
Artist
Born in London in 1950. Over the last 25 years Antony Gormley has revitalised the human image in sculpture through a radical investigation of the body as a place of memory and transformation, using his own body as subject, tool and material. Since 1990 Gormley as expanded his concern with the human condition to explore the collective body and the relationship between self and other in large-scale installations. He has created some of the most ambitious and iconic works of contemporary British sculpture, including Field for the British Isles, Angel of the North at Gateshead, and Another Place, sited on Crosby Beach near Liverpool.

Hiromasa Hosotani
Design Engineer
Born 1985 in Kyoto. After graduated from Kyoto Institute of Technology, Hosotani entered to the Tokyo University of fine arts and currently belongs to Masahiko Sato's laboratory. He mainly uses shadows as motifs and one of the representative works is "hadow-graphy" (2009).

Atsushi Iriki
Scientist
Atsushi Iriki received his Ph.D. in Neurophysiology from Tokyo Medical and Dental University in 1986. He held research associate positions at the Tokyo Medical and Dental University and then at the Rockefeller University. He joined the faculty of Toho University Medical School as an assistant professor and as an associate professor in Physiology. In 1999, he returned to Tokyo Medical and Dental University as a full professor in Cognitive Neurobiology. Atsushi Iriki is now a Head of Laboratory for Symbolic Cognitive Development at RIKEN Brain Science Institute. He is an adjunct professor of Tokyo Medical and Dental University, University College London, The University of Tokyo, Keio University. Based on neurobiological analyses on primates, which were trained with higher cognitive functions, he tries to uncover evolutionary precursors of human intelligence, including self-awareness and symbolic concept formation, grounded onto physical morphologies and patterns of structured bodily actions.

Takashi Kiriyama
Researcher
Professor at Graduate School of Film and New Media, Tokyo University of the Arts. After obtaining his PhD in Engineering from the University of Tokyo, Takashi Kiriyama worked at Research into Artifacts, Center for Engineering, The University of Tokyo and Center for Design Research, Stanford University. His research interests include interactive media and interaction design. As a member of Euclid, a research unit with Masahiko Sato, he created "Arithmetik Garden."

Hisato Ogata
Design Engineer
Graduated from Faculty of Engineering, the University of Tokyo, in 2000. After leaving the International Academy of Media Arts and Sciences (IAMAS) in 2002, Hisato Ogata joined LEADING EDGE DESIGN as a design engineer in 2003. Won a "Jury Recommended Work" award at the Media Arts Festival, Agency for Cultural Affairs, a Good Design Award (2004) and an iF Product Design Award (2005) for "OnQ" (NTT DoCoMo).

Shinro Ohtake
Artist
Born in Tokyo in 1955, Shinro Ohtake is one of Japan's leading contemporary artists. Functioning as studies of materiality, form and process, Ohtake's works include drawings, collages, paintings, large-scale assemblage pieces and an ongoing series of scrapbooks that are so dense they take on sculptural properties. In the 1980s, Ohtake helped shape a new sensibility in Japanese contemporary art through solo exhibitions at Tokyo's Galerie Watari and the seminal alternative art space Sagacho Exhibit Space. He has had recent mid-career surveys at Tokyo's Museum of Contemporary Art (2006) and the Fukuoka Art Museum (2007, toured to Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art). In 2009 he was included in "I Believe: Japanese Contemporary Art" at the Museum of Modern Art, Toyama, and completed a site-specific commission for Benesse Art Site Naoshima, the Naoshima Bath "I♥湯". He is represented by Take Ninagawa Gallery, Tokyo. Will participate in Gwangju Biennale 2010.

Kenichi Okada
Designer
Born in 1980 in Hyogo, Japan, Kenichi Okada studied architecture at Kanto Gakuin University. He became interested in visual imagery while in college, and moved to U.K. after graduation to study at Royal College of Art. He obtained M.A. in Design Interactions in 2008. His work has been exhibited at contemporary art exhibitions overseas as well as at Design Tide. He currently works for Creative Center, Sony Corporation. Tatsuya Saito
Cognosyntheologist
Born in East Asia. He is interested in excavating unknown aspects of human perception and cognition. Won Grand-Prix at Laval Virtual 2006 (France), Bronze Prize at the 9th L'Oreal Art & Science of Color Prize and Japan Media Art Festival 2008 Excellence Prize. He holds M.F.A from UCLA.

Yuichiro Tamura

Born in 1977 in Nuremberg, Germany, Yuichiro Tamura graduated from Nihon University, College of Art, Photography Department. Currently he is a Ph.D. candidate at Tokyo University of the Arts, Graduate School of Film and New Media. His major work is a film "Night Less (2010)" created entirely with the images from Google Street View. He is a participating artist in the Tokyo Wonder Site Aoyama's Creator-in-Residence Program in 2010, and is also the director of Otto Mainzheim Gallery in Tokyo.

Junji Watanabe

Junji Watanabe was born in 1976. He graduated from Department of Mathematical Engineering and Information Physics, School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo in 2000, and received his Ph. D. in Information Science and Technology from the University of Tokyo in 2005. He studies cognitive science, and its applications to communication devices. His research has been performed not only from an academic viewpoint but also through creative activities in collaboration with artists and designers. His recent works were presented for the public in science and art museums such as MIRAIKAN, Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, and Ars Electronica Center.

Alexa Wright
Visual Artist
Alexa Wright is a visual artist who works with photography, video and interactive digital media. She is interested in portraiture in its broadest sense. Her projects usually require a long period of research, often involving collaborations with scientists or people with disabilities, or specific medical conditions. Recent works include: Opera Interna, a series of digitally manipulated portraits of opera singers, selected for the International Women Artists' Biennale, Korea (2007); Cover Story (2008), a video installation that investigates the functions of the human face; and Conversation Piece, an intelligent room that can converse with its occupants, shown at Ormeau Baths Gallery, Belfast in ISEA 09.

Masasuke Yasumoto

Born in 1980. Completed Ph.D. at Tokyo University of the Arts, Graduate School of Film and New Media. He creates animation and interactive work using computer graphics. As a member of "Exploratory IT Human Resources Project (MITOH Program)" supported by INFORMATION-TECHNOLOGY PROMOTION AGENCY, JAPAN, he was involved in the development of the Balance Ball Interface. His exhibition includes "Dot Man, Line Man" (in collaboration with Masahiko Sato and Masaya Ishikawa) at "Transform Yourself" exhibition held at ICC in 2008.
