Augmented Animals

A series of objects were designed to allow animals to adapt and survive in the world of humans, many of which are sure bring about a chuckle. Toy manufacturer TOMY Company, Ltd has created some of the pieces on display.
Op the Cyclops
The character "Op" created by Vassilis Zidianakis, who was inspired by the "eyeball" talisman typical of Mediterranean coastal areas, appears on a screen using SEIREN's original printing technology, Viscotecs. As well as being a source of talisman eyeballs, the work continues to protect 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT and the exhibition from evil.

“Me-boshi”
As a way of dealing with the blind spots we encounter on the roads when driving, NISSAN MOTOR has developed the “Around View Monitor.” The aim of the “Me-boshi (“eye stars”) was to draw the public’s attention to a bird’s-eye-view of their surroundings. When you look through the eyepieces installed across the room, you can see the whole room as a bird in the sky would see it. Looking down on the people walking across the room who have pinned one of the “stars” to themselves is just like looking at the night sky filled with twinkling stars. You are there too looking through the eyepiece at the other people in the room. Try attaching a star to someone. When you look through the eyepiece, everyone can see a reflection of your eyes on the ceiling. Those who are not looking through the eyepieces have the reflected eyes and their own eyes and experience the work with an awareness of being watched by these sets of eyes.
