Gaudí: Windows on the Future

Antoni Gaudí propelled his creative career not only by harnessing his unique architectural philosophy and intense spirit of inquiry, his original sense of crafting forms and details, and his keen ability to gather information across the fields of art and technology, but also by joining hands with a wide range of artisans, collaborators, patrons, and clients. He continued to produce a rich variety of windows without being constrained to established styles, techniques, or construction methods, striving to realize an architecture of total integration and harmony.
To mark the centennial year of Gaudí's passing in 2026, YKK AP is collaborating with Gaudí landmarks in Spain to present an exhibition that celebrates his creative and innovative window designs in Barcelona, with this satellite exhibition in Tokyo. The shows have been organized as part of YKK AP's "Gaudí: Windows on the Future" project, an industry-academia-government collaboration that aims to introduce a selection of accumulated insights, research findings, models, and joint studies pertaining to Gaudí through exhibitions, a documentary video, a book, and associated events, inspiring audiences to learn from Gaudí's richly creative window designs and contemplate the windows of tomorrow.
This Tokyo exhibition shares the same concept as the main exhibition at UNESCO World Heritage Site Palau Güell, but has been formatted to 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT Gallery 3, a space dedicated to communicating and proposing designs.
